The Oberland Performance Art Festival - grenzART 1 - took place in Kirschau mainly at the Werk IV. Furthermore open spaces of Kirschau were used as art locations.
Werk IV
Until five years ago, the 'Werk IV' was a factory for coarse yarn. Since 2004 the impressing industrial complex remained unused.
The artists were provided with spaces, halls and open areas of different size in and around the Werk IV, with the purpose of modulating them artistically or using them as a place of presentation for their work.
Kirschau
“The village with golden roofs”, is located south of Bautzen in the Oberland in eastern Saxony. Influenced by early middle-class textile industry, the region used to be the economical motor of eastern Saxony. In the 1920s, Kirschau reached its economical peak. Already at that time the dedication of the citizens complemented the investment of the factory owners Friese and Pelz.
In that way an unusual municipality was formed, whose radiant power can be seen and felt even today in the social and architectural living environment of Kirschau.
